Prayer and Meditation
The other day, I was listening to a video by a life coach. He briefly discussed prayer and meditation and the difference between them. He said that prayer is asking and meditation is listening. I agree with this and I also feel that they both involve listening and asking and just plain old conversing. Just talk to “them” and “they” will listen and their responses can be amazing. I can sometimes be a little irreverent and call them “spooks” and I can guarantee that they find that amusing. And they like it when we are a little more playful and when we drop all the reverence. They just want us to have a relationship with them and to ask for help when we need it. And to listen for the answers after we ask for the help.
Where do you focus when you meditate or pray? I used to picture spirits, guides and teachers as being “out there somewhere”. After beginning to embrace the pure love of which we are all made and that there is no separation, I began to focus on that inner core of love. And I began to realize that all of those spirits, guides, angels and teachers are in me. They are not “out there somewhere”. Since there is no separation and there is only oneness, it only makes sense to me that I contain everything. I need only to focus on that loving space inside of me and everyone and everything is there.
Next time you sit down to meditate or pray, try focusing your attention inward. Keep your focus inward, even when you are asking for help from God, Universe, Spirit, angels, guides or loved ones who have passed. They are all within. There really is no “they” or “them”, there is only us.
